A Thousand Stars – looking to be competitive in Oaks
Fifteen-time champion trainer Wayne DaCosta said that his filly, A Thousand Stars , will be more competitive in tomorrow’s Jamaica Oaks sponsored by Caribbean Choice.
A Thousand Stars, owned by Elizabeth DaCosta and ridden by Robert Halledeen, showed signs of promise when finishing second by nine-and-a-half lengths behind the out-of-class Nuclear Affair in the Post To Post 1,000 Guineas over 1,600 metres on April 9.
“That was a promising run by A Thousand Stars to finish second in the 1,000 Guineas. It was her first race against the top fillies as she had just broken her maiden before that, so basically, I thought it was a very promising performance,” DaCosta told the Complete Racing Guide.
Since then, DaCosta said his charge has been working well heading into the season’s third Classic race.
“All is well with her. She has been working very well in the mornings. She came out of the Guineas in good shape, working 1,100 metres in 1:07:1 minutes so it is best to say that she is doing well at the moment,” he said.
DaCosta also said that the distance of the Jamaica Oaks won’t be a problem for A Thousand Stars.
“Going over 2,000 metres won’t be an issue for A Thousand Stars as she is bred to get a distance of ground. With that run among the top fillies in the 1,000 Guineas under her girth, I believe that A Thousand Stars will be just about competitive in the Oaks come tomorrow,” DaCosta affirmed.
