Leaders express outrage at policewoman’s killing
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Leaders in society have expressed outrage at the callous shooting of a policewoman in Franklyn Town Thursday morning while on her way to work.
Woman Corporal Judith Williams, who was shot multiple times in the violent attack on Bray Street in the community, reportedly died this morning after undergoing several surgeries.
Williams, 54, was assigned to the Office of the Commissioner of Police.
Leader of the Opposition, Portia Simpson Miller expressed sadness at “yet another shooting of a police officer”.
Simpson Miller, in a statement, said the police must be resolute in its efforts to find the criminals who attacked the policewoman.
The Opposition leader said that the worsening murder situation in the country is alarming and requires decisive action and the full cooperation of all Jamaicans
In the meantime, Commissioner of Police Dr Carl Williams and the Police High Command have strongly condemned the killing and have offered condolences to the family members, friends and colleagues of the slain policewoman.
“My heart goes out to the family members and colleagues of Ms Williams who has passed under very tragic circumstances. I too mourn with you as she was a member of my immediate staff,” said Dr Williams.
“To her killers, the Jamaica Constabulary Force remains undaunted by this evil act. We will stop at nothing until her killers are brought to justice,” Dr Williams continued.
The Police High Command is also urging all officers both on and off duty to be extremely vigilant and to take swift and decisive action to protect themselves, family, colleagues and members of the public within the remit of the law. Members are further reminded that the threat level against Police officers remains at high.
The Chaplaincy Services Branch has been tasked with providing counselling and support to the family members and colleagues of Williams.
