Third time, a charm
IT was a full day of racing for the nearly packed stands at Palisadoes International Raceway in Kingston for the Jamaica Karting Association’s (JKA) third race meet last Sunday.
“I’m very happy with the support, which has been translating into more spectators and competitors,” David Summerbell Jr, president of JKA, told Auto.
Three meets into his term, Summerbell has managed to deliver on the majority of his promises of bringing the sport into the limelight, adding 9 new drivers and seeing gate receipts up by 500 per cent. With a club night planned for this evening at the Spanish Court Hotel, New Kingston, he indicated that work is well underway to allow the circuit to be run in reverse direction and at night.
“We’ve been testing lighting and modifying the curbs to allow the karts to use them in both directions,” he said.
The racing itself saw Comer80 split between Paul Moodie and Brandon Finizi-Smith. In Juniors it was Senna Summerbell with double class final victories. Jonathon Law followed a similar suit, taking both Rotax Senior class finals. Super Rotax continues to be a total hotbed with Timothy Stewart and Rugie Misir taking a race final win each; however, it is Douglas Gore that now leads the class on points.
