Exciting showdowns at Magnum
SATURDAY’S weekly edition of Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall Competition saw Shaneil Muir and Clymaxx dominating the female face-offs, while Shemdon and Frass Groovas secured wins in the male segment.
The four were part of the group which received the lowest votes from the public and had to do battle to move on to the next round.
Muir got the better of Tequila while Clymaxx outpaced Tiffy T. Librawto handed the win to Frass Groovas after forgetting his lyrics. Shemdon got the better of Triple R.
Muir explained how she got tangled in the bottom tier.
“The other day, I came down with the flu, so for the whole week I was very down and didn’t get to go on the road. So, the campaigning wasn’t that strong. It was very weak for me. The low votes was kind of expected, so it was just for me to prepare and come and do what I have to do,” she said after her victory.
With castles Red and Blue combining, strong performances on the night came from princesses I-Rae with her original reggae song
Stick Around; Clymaxx’s Baddest Ting; A’Right Den by Mi Ya Estro; and Mizaa Bling’s controversial Ansa. The Magnum princes were not to be outdone. Pink Boss took charge with his original We A Run Di Road, while Skillarchy proved his skills with Dem Figet Bout God -– an inspiring piece with a catchy chorus that got the crowd chanting along.
Zigma’s Bad From Mi Born did not receive favourable reviews from the judges.
Guest judge Pretty Boy Floyd made a grand entrance by handing out thousand-dollar notes to the audience. He complemented resident judges Skatta Burrell, Miss Kitty, and Professor Nuts.
Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall Competition continues next Saturday at D’Entrance on Constant Spring Road in Kingston.
