Thompson sizzles in 100m win at Rabat Diamond League
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Jamaica’s rising star Elaine Thompson won the women’s 100m at the Rabat Diamond League in Morocco, in a meet record 11.02 seconds.
Thompson, 23, who won silver in the 200m at the 2015 World Championships, looked awesome as she destroyed a quality field while running into a negative headwind of 1.3 mps.
Thompson showed that her start has improved significantly as she eased away from her compatriot Kerron Stewart early on and comfortably held off the fast-finishing Nigerian Blessing Okagbare.
Thompson, who clocked a wind-aided 10.71 seconds in Kingston recently, was clear of Okagbare in second with 11.11 seconds.
Stewart finished third with a season’s best 11.19 and American veteran Carmelita Jeter was fifth in 11.32 seconds.
