MONTEGO BAY, St James — Lovers of retro music will be in for a treat this Saturday when J Wray & Nephew Limited’s Jamaican-made Colbeck Ginger Wine brings ‘Off Tha Wall’ to Pier One, Montego Bay, with musical hits from the 70s, 80s and 90s.
Powered by its new partner, Colbeck, Off The Wall promises to take patrons on a trip down memory lane with an old school vibe, Colbeck Ginger Wine specials and smooth dance moves, under the theme ‘Purple Rain’.
“Given the recent passing of Prince, we decided to honour him by making the theme ‘Purple Rain’ for the first 2016 staging of the event. Prince had some of the greatest retro tunes including Purple Rain. He made a significant contribution to the development of music in the 80s and we have a lot of respect for him,” explained Nash ‘DJ Turbo’ Lawson, one of the promoters and DJs of the event.
He added that the name ‘Off Tha Wall’ was conceptualised from Michael Jackson’s 1979 album Off The Wall.
Omar Palmer, J Wray & Nephew Limited’s marketing manager — Fortified Wines and Liqueurs, said the event was a perfect synergy with the brand Colbeck Ginger Wine.
“Colbeck Ginger Wine is a Jamaican product which inspires a feeling of nostalgia and old school, and Off Tha Wall has been one of the most successful retro parties in western Jamaica since its inception six years ago.
“We are excited about this partnership and the entertainment value it will bring to patrons. Everyone can expect a perfect pairing of Colbeck Ginger Wine and timeless music at Colbeck’s Off The Wall,” said Palmer.
DJ Turbo said people attending the event should expect nothing but the best from the 70s, 80s and 90s music when he, along with DJ Marvin and DJ Jessie, takes control of the turntables.
