Maverley remain on course after goalless draw with Brazil
DRAX HALL, St James — KSAFA Super League champions Maverley/ Hughenden need only to avoid a big defeat against qualifiers Jamalco FC next Sunday to join the Clarendon outfit in the 2016-17 Red Stripe Premier League after grinding out a 0-0 draw in their penultimate Jamaica Football Federation Charley’s JB Rum Premier League qualifying game against Brazil FC at Drax Hall yesterday.
The point took Maverley/ Hughenden to eight, but Eastern Confederation Super League champions Brazil FC on five points remain in touching distance.
At the Granville Community Centre, the understaffed home team were beaten 3-0 by Jamalco FC, who won their fifth straight and are clear ahead on 15 points. Granville United, the Western Confederation champions, have lost all five games played.
Ramone Plummer scored twice, once in either half for Jamalco FC, while Shandel Senior got the other. Plummer gave the visitors a 39th-minute lead before Senior doubled the advantage in the 76th minute.
Plummer then completed his brace in the 83rd minute against a beaten and battered Granville United who managed just one goal in five games.
After four previous losses, Granville United had just two substitutes on the bench and a regular outfield player, Davian Thelwell, starting in goal, playing against a Jamalco FC team that rested a number of their top players.
