World Champion Football Freestyler to visit Jamaica
With the third instalment of the Jamaican leg of the Red Bull Street Style competition scheduled to get under way in the coming weeks, seasoned and aspiring football freestylers could get a chance to rub shoulders with the decorated 2008 world champion Sean Garnier.
Garnier, known for his amazing freestyle football skills, is scheduled for a three-day visit on the island from June 16-19 courtesy of the premium energy drink, Red Bull.
The Frenchman’s visit is a part of the launch of the Jamaican leg of the Red Bull Street Style competition which takes place from June-August.
The six-week competition will provide an opportunity for freestylers of all ages to showcase their skills as organisers travel around the island in search of the best freestyle footballer to represent Jamaica in the Red Bull Street Style finals overseas later this year.
The international segment of the high octane competition will see freestylers from approximately 50 countries converging at one location to battle for the symbol of freestyle supremacy. Each battle will see two players facing off for three minutes with the winner advancing and the loser taking the trip back home.
Garnier, who gained notable success when he became Red Bull Street Style champion, gained even more traction after an entertaining showdown against Brazilian superstar and Red Bull athlete, Neymar Jr.
Incidentally, the talented freestyler, considered as one of the most skilful footballers in the world, will be celebrating his 32nd birthday during his visit to the island.
The once association football player of Auxerre and Troyes, who saw his professional career cut short due to injuries, studied to become a football instructor and started a programme of urban freestyle art gaining great fame with his own style and unique skills.
He later formed his own team dubbed Street Style Society, also called S3 Crew, which combines freestyle football, freestyle basketball as well as some other street sport styles.
In 2014, Garnier made his first appearance for London United Futsal Club. The amateur club based in South West London, lost 9-2 against then English Champions, Baku Futsal Club.
The jovial personality quickly shook off his misfortunes and toured Pakistan for a week, where he showcased his skills in front of sizeable crowds in Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad.
