Virgo’s Vendetta — a first-of-its-kind Pools Tourney in Jamaica

Virgo’s Vendetta — a first-of-its-kind Pools Tourney in Jamaica

Pocket billiard sports (pool and skittles) have been played in Jamaica, for decades.

At present, there are approximately over 200 active pool players around the island, who are classed according to their skill level. This highly anticipated game format is a first-of-its-kind in local pocket billiards. ‘Virgo’s Vendetta’ will exceed previously attempted major tournaments for several reasons.

This is a first-of-its-kind attempt at a mixed-games, double-elimination format. The tournament’s exciting atmosphere will lay a new fundamental foundation within the Jamaican pool fraternity. The inaugural staging of this event by director/organiser Lauren Dash, will manifest as a national annual event, in celebration of her birthday hence the event’s name — “Virgo’s Vendetta”. Lauren is a Virgo and presently one of the most active female pool players, and she’s still aiming for a big tournament win in 2016.

Discipline and professionalism, the true marks of this once prestigious game, will be adhered to as a maxim, in every area of the event. Punctuality will be enforced, starting promptly at 12 noon on both days, Saturday and Sunday, September 3 and 4, 2016. Pool etiquette and professional behaviour will be observed by all players, officials, and spectators. A semi-formal dress code will be enforced to ensure uniformity and proper deportment of players and officials. There are high expectations for a good turnout of various pool enthusiasts, who will watch and learn from some of the sport’s very skilled players.

Video coverage of the tournament will be posted to YouTube for mileage of the sponsor(s) aboard. Social media blasts will be posted and updated with highlights throughout each day’s session, via Facebook (Jamaica Amateur Pool League), Instagram (@supawoman4lyph), and multiple WhatsApp chat groups.

The organisers are seeking and inviting sponsorship for this event, which could enhance the status and priority of this tournament on the 2016 pool calendar. So, experience the tournament atmosphere, discover the pool players, and learn about expert run-outs and strategic offensive or defensive games in a pocket billiards paradise, at Hotshots Sports Bar, 120A Constant Spring Road (Mary Brown’s Corner) in Kingston.

And for sponsorship interest, or any other information pertaining to the event, the contact person is Lauren Dash at (876) 816-5192.
