Weekly Round-up: Portia didn’t know… Luciano loses visa… Thompson whips Schippers again
KINGSTON, Jamaica – People’s National Party leader Portia Simpson Miller on Tuesday said she was unaware of a campaign funding scandal that triggered a fresh round of conflict within the ranks of the fractious Opposition.
She has since asked the party’s integrity commission to investigate claims that some PNP candidates have not remitted campaign donations, an accusation in which the party has been mired for more than a week.
Meanwhile, the US visa of reggae artist Luciano was cancelled by American law enforcement officers as he tried to enter the country from Canada to perform on the Philadelphia Jerk Festival at Fairmount Park last Sunday.
In sport, double Olympic sprint champion Elaine Thompson confirmed her status as the premier sprinter in the world.
