Crippling addiction
A man who was found with 60 pieces of cocaine was on Friday sentenced to 18 months in prison for the offence.
Peter McIntosh was charged with possession of cocaine and dealing cocaine last month. He pleaded guilty to to the possession charge and not guilty to intent to deal.
For the guilty plea, he noted that he had an explanation.
“I have an addiction problem, Your Honour and you did send me go a doctor one time and me no do it again,” he noted.
“Long time me nuh smoke, Your Honour,” he continued. “Me sweep di streets a night time an me did intend to dash weh the coke.”
But when Chief Parish Judge Judith Pusey heard the amount of substance he was found with and that it was cut up into pieces, she was not moved.
“I not sending you to no doctor again. You’re going to do 18 months for the 60 pieces,” she ordered.
