McPherson says she always wanted to become a model, and those around her saw it. “It’s always something that I wanted to do, and people would say, ‘You look like a model, you could model’,” she told
Having this long-time desire, coupled with the motivation from those who told her she could do well in the field, she decided to go for it, and see where it takes her.
The native of Bull Bay, St Thomas would apply to become a model on Saint International’s website, and was elated to receive an invitation to join the agency.
“At first when I went to the meeting, I was the only person who had on weight. I was there and I was like, ‘Deiwight is going to send me home,’ but when I got interviewed by Deiwight, he was like, ‘I don’t want you to lose any weight’,” said the 18-year-old.
She would enter the Fashion Face of the Caribbean competition in March 2015, and place third but is now signed to Muse Model Management, New York and MiLK Model Management in London.
She hasn’t walked any big international runways yet, but has been doing various development stints in New York and London. She also walked in Saint Style Week this summer, and was a big hit, especially at the staple finale, Fashion Block.
McPherson has hopes to make it big on the international fashion circuit, and ultimately hopes to walk for plus size designer, Evans
and ultimately, Victoria’s Secret, a goal which, knowing her determination, she is odds on to achieve.
In the meantime, she is happy with what she has achieved to date.
“It’s a good feeling being the Caribbean’s first plus size model,” said the Excelsior High School past student, who said that modelling has helped her to overcome shyness.
McPherson is looking forward to great modelling career and is willing to put in the work to not only be the Caribbean’s first plus size model, but an excellent one at that.
Outside of modelling, McPherson wants to become a lawyer, a goal she plans to pursue at the University of Technology come next year.
