Attorney Patrick Bailey gives statement in death probe
THE police have confirmed that popular attorney-at-law Patrick Bailey has given a statement in relation to the death of 51-year-old Jermaine Junior, whose body was found with multiple stab wounds on the morning of September 30 at Bailey’s upper St Andrew home.
“No, there is no suspect in custody. Mr Bailey is not a suspect. He gave his statement to the police; that statement was recorded,” investigating officer, Detective Inspector Simpson, told the Jamaica Observer when contacted.
Reports are that Bailey stumbled upon Junior’s body, which had more than a dozen stab wounds, in his living room around 4:30 am. The knife used was reportedly found beside the body. The deceased was said to be the caretaker of the premises. The police said that there were no signs of forced entry.
Bailey, who according to initial reports slept through the murder, was immediately ruled out as a suspect by the police.
Following the incident, his doctor and client Jephthah Ford instructed that he be confined to bed after he reportedly exhibited signs of being unwell. Ford also said he was not fit to give a statement at the time.
Yesterday, Ford told the Observer that Bailey had recovered and was “well enough to be questioned”.
“Mr Bailey met with the police last week Wednesday at the office of the major organised crime on Spanish Town Road. I cannot speak to what was said or what may have been said; I can only say that I know the meeting took place.
“I [also] know that two other lawyers were in attendance — Christopher Townsend and I don’t know who the other lawyer is,” he said.
