#X6MurderTrial: Jurors shown photos of bullets taken from Khajeel’s body
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Jurors in the murder trial of businessman Patrick Powell were today shown pictures of two expended bullets and a damaged bullet fragment taken from the body of Khajeel Mais.
Detective Sergeant Paul Thompson, a trained scenes of crime investigator and photographer, testified after the trial resumed that he was present during the post mortem on Khajeel’s body, and had photographed the bullets and bullet fragment.
Another trained scenes of crime investigator and photographer, Sergeant David Campbell, testified that he had visited the Constant Spring Police Station on July 22 and had observed what appeared to be a bullet hole in the rear registration plate of the taxi in which Khajeel was travelling when he was shot dead.
Sergeant Campbell told the court that he also observed what appeared to be gunshot damage to the rear seat backrest and upper left side of the driver’s seat.
The witness said he observed what appeared to be blood on the rear seat, front passenger seat and on the left side of the driver’s seat as well as a bluish black contact mark on the lower left side of the taxi, which ran from front door to left fender.
The left rear window was also completely shattered, the witness said.
The jury was also shown photographs of some of the observations made by the police officers.
Powell is being tried for murder and shooting with intent in the 2011 killing of former Kingston College student, 17-year-old Khajeel Mais.
The defence team yesterday painted Mais as a troubled teenager who was suspended from school, on more than one occasions, and had a matter in the Juvenile Court.
The teen’s mother was first to take the witness stand and broke down in tears as she recounted her son’s death.
