Sandals lunch hour concert to assist Haiti, Bahamas hurricane victims
MONTEGO BAY, St James — The Sandals Montego Bay Resort raised some $200,000 last week Wednesday during a lunch hour concert at the property, which formed part of an initiative by the Sandals Foundation to raise funds for hurricane relief efforts being undertaken in Haiti and The Bahamas, following the recent passage of Hurricane Matthew.
The event, which involved a variety of activities, including auctions, music, a fashion show and dancing, was staged in collaboration with the Montego Bay-based Sandals Resorts –Sandals Montego Bay, Sandals Royal Caribbean and Sandals Carlyle– the Jamaica Constabulary Force Band and the Jamaica Union of Travelers Association (JUTA), Ocho Rios chapter.
The highlight of the concert included a “Walk for Charity Fashion Show,” which saw managers spanning the three properties strutting their stuff on the runway, decked out in authentic urban Jamaican wear.
The Jamaican-themed event also highlighted special performances by the Green Pond High School in St James, who used drums and quadrille dance moves to bring the theme to life.
Well known musician, Shyam Moses, and Sandals Montego Bay’s hotel manager, Dawn Smith, wowed the audience with a soulful rendition of ‘Africa,’ that touched the hearts of the scores of guests in attendance.
The Sandals Foundation initiative to raise funds for Haiti and The Bahamas, also include an online donation account that can be accessed at www.sandalsfoundation.com.
