Tyrical goes to Beauty Shop
Hair extensions, false eyelashes and Goth make-up are the rage among the Jamaican ‘hot girls’. For Tyrical, it seemed the perfect topic for a song.
The flood of beauty enhancers drove the stiletto-slim singjay to record Beauty Shop, which will be officially released this month.
His waist-length locks knotted in a wrap, Tyrical discussed the song this week while hanging out at his manager’s office in uptown St Andrew. He said the cosmetic industry has changed considerably since he was a youth going to dances in his hometown of Barbican.
Those changes, he added, have benefited the fairer sex.
“Nowadays yuh si a girl in di day an’ in di night she is a different person. Gone are di days when a girl ugly ’cause everybody hot now,” he told Splash.
Produced by Kirk ‘Knatural’ Brown for Knatural Entertainment, Beauty Shop is already making waves through an unofficial video circulating on social media.
The song has revived Tyrical’s fortunes. According to the 40-year-old artiste, “Base pon di buzz in di street, da song ya a go gold.”
Tyrical (real name Michael Harris) has excelled as an artiste and songwriter. He co-wrote Mr Vegas’s massive hit Heads High, and wrote Sufferer, one of Bounty Killer’s biggest hits.
As an artiste, his strongest sellers include Want My Own and Ghetto Prayer.
Strongly influenced by the talented but troubled deejay Baby Wayne (who died in 2005), Tyrical has recorded for established labels, including Freddie McGregor’s Big Ship and emerging producers such as Sean “Seanizzle” Reid.
“The key thing in dis business is to be serious. A lotta di seriousness I have I learn from being around people like Freddie McGregor an’ Bounty Killer,” he said.
Tyrical is also pushing Cheat Pon Mi, which he produced for his Tyrific Records.
