Vere’s Britnie Dixon tops 10k at Reggae Marathon
Negril, Westmoreland — Vere Technical High School’s Britnie Dixon topped the female section of the 10k (6.2miles) at the recent 16th staging of the Reggae Marathon along the Norman Manley Boulevard in Negril.
The event, under the supervision of Race Director Alfred ‘Frano’ Francis, got off to its usual prompt start in the dark at 5:15 am in three categories 10k (6.2miles), half marathon (13.1miles) and the 26.2-mile marathon to the beat of reggae music.
Dixon won the schools’ individual female section in 41.30 minutes, with teammate Kris-Ann Plummer (41.34 minutes) placing second and Shantay Chamberlin (Mavis Bank High) third in 42.06 minutes. Vere went on to win the schools’ team female section of the 10k.
“It was ok and challenging in parts,” Dixon, who was second last year, told
Jamaica Observer Central.
“I put in a little extra in training this week and Kris-Ann Plummer, my teammate, was right beside me, [so] I got the extra push needed to finish the event winning. This is my third year, the first year I was third, last year second and this year first. I’m feeling very great and proud of myself and my teammates,” she added.
