Watch – Samory I
His name is not mentioned when the much-touted roots revival is discussed, but singer Samory I made significant strides as an artiste in 2016.
A trek to Europe in July did him a world of good. He worked on three major festivals (Reeds Festival in Switzerland, Reggae Jam in Germany and Reggae Geel in Belgium) and collaborated with Naja Vibes, a veteran Swiss reggae band.
The trip was an eye-opener for the 26-year-old artiste.
“Is di first time mi si people crying to mi music. In Germany, di rain fall an’ di people stan’ up ’cause dem love di message,” he said.
The shows also gave him an opportunity to showcase his latest songs, including I Am Gad, produced by German label Silly Walks Discotheque; and Take Me Oh Jah and African Daughter, both produced by Rory Gilligan of Stone Love fame.
Samory-I’s first album, produced by Gilligan, is scheduled to be released in early 2017.
