57-y-o ex-con held with loaded submachine gun
ST ANDREW, Jamaica — An ex-convict was yesterday held with a loaded submachine gun along Molynes Road in St Andrew. Police subsequently searched his home in Red Hills and found another firearm and several rounds of ammunition.
According to the constabulary’s Corporate Communications Unit (CCU), lawmen were conducting vehicular checkpoint operations on Molynes Road when the man, who was driving a Nissan motorcar, was signalled to stop. He complied and was searched along with the vehicle.
The search of the vehicle revealed an Intratec submachine gun loaded with two 9mm rounds.
Further reports are that the lawmen swiftly obtained a warrant and escorted the man to his home in the Red Hills, where one Ruger 9mm pistol and two-hundred assorted rounds of ammunition were seized.
CCU said the 57-year-old “lawbreaker” was then taken into custody where it was discovered that he had served a 21-year prison sentence and was only released 3 years ago.
“This was a display of excellent police work where we leave no stone unturned. As many times as you transgress against the law expect to be caught” warned Superintendent Jacqueline Green, head of the St Andrew North Division.
The police did not name the man.
