Sandals South Coast edge Three Miles River in Super League
WHITEHOUSE, Westmoreland — Sandals South Coast rebounded from their loss in the mid-season final of the Jamaica Football Federation Western Confederation Charlie’s JB Rum Super League to Reggae Youths, edging Three Miles River FC 1-0 in a Westmoreland derby in their cross-zone game in Whitehouse on Sunday.
A week earlier Sandals South Coast gave up a 2-0 lead and lost 2-5 in extra time, their only blemish on the season, but on Sunday they moved to within a win of securing an early spot in the semi-finals.
Leonardo Rankine’s 76th-minute goal carried Sandals South Coast to their 10th win and kept them unbeaten in league play as they raced to 31 points, 11 more than second-placed Reggae Youths.
Clark’s Town moved into joint fourth place with Faulkland FC on 19 points after their 2-0 win over Holland United in a Trelawny derby at Cedric Titus High.
Joseph Small in the 38th minute and Frank Wilson in the 52nd minute scored for the home team, who edged past Montego Bay Boys Club who are on 18 points.
Beaches Negril beat last-placed and relegation-threatened Petersfield FC 3-0 at Long Bay Beach Park to cement their place in sixth place with 16 points.
Oneil Blair in the ninth minute, Kemar Dawkins in the 28th and an own goal by Brad Williams in the 57th minute were the scorers for Beaches Negril.
Former champions Wadadah FC moved out of the relegation zone with a 2-1 win over Hopewell United at Orchard Playfield, with Leonardo Fogarthy scoring both goals in the first half of the game that was tied at 1-1 in the sixth minute.
Fogarthy opened the scoring in the second minute, but Tyrique Clarke equalised for Hopewell in the sixth minute in an explosive start.
The next goal that turned out to be the winner did not come until the 44th minute however, when Fogarthy completed his first brace of the season.
