UPDATE: Deportees arrive from UK
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The group of Jamaican deportees sent home on a chartered flight from the United Kingdom (UK) today has arrived at the Norman Manley International Airport.
Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) and the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) personnel along with other government officials and representatives of the National Organisation for Deported Migrants (NODM), a non-governmental organisation (NGO) funded by the British High Commissionme, met the unconfirmed number of deportees at the airport.
They are to be transported to the JCF’s Mobile Reserve headquarters in Kingston for processing.
It has been argued that many of the deportees left Jamaica as children and no longer have relatives living in the island. The Ministry of National Security yesterday said in a release that a case manager has been assigned to assist the deportees with reintegration.
They will also be provided with a publication titled ‘Coming Home to Jamaica,’ which contains information on how to reintegrate in Jamaica.
In September 2016, 42 people were returned to Jamaica on a chartered flight and since then 110 Jamaicans have been deported on scheduled commercial flights from the UK, the ministry revealed.
More information later.
