Big fields set for last Classic preparation races
A total of 32 horses representing the cream of the three-year-old crop have been provisionally entered for the last two designated prep races before the start of the Classic season on April 8 when the 1,000 and 2,000 Guineas will be contested.
Sixteen fillies are down to participate in the seven-furlong (1,400m) Front Runner Thornbird Stakes, while 16 colts and geldings are in the Front Runner Prince Consort Stakes also over seven furlongs (1,400m).These races are set to be run this Saturday.
Trainer Anthony Nunes dominates the entries in the Thornbird with four runners, Bilingual, Blue Tradition, Runallday and Unfinishedbusiness provisionally entered.
Philip Feanny is represented in the Thornbird by Fort Knox, Khaleesi’s Revenge and Lightning Lily.
Also entered in the Thornbird is the top-rated two-year-old filly of last season, the Wayne DaCosta-trained She’s A Maneater. In the Prince Consort, DaCosta comes in with four entries Fearless Samurai, Radical, Rambunctious Links and Winter Is Coming.
Nunes comes in with three provisional runners led by Sotomayor, the top juvenile of 2016. Nunes’ other entries are Dontae and Ictus. In the Prince Consort, Gary Subratie goes into the race with three entries, Pleasant Secret, Proud of Nuclear and Subbie.
