Symatic wins first face off
MAGNUM Kings and Queens of Dancehall contestant, Symatic was unstoppable at the fifth live show held at D’Entrance on Constant Spring Road in St Andrew, last Saturday.
The singjay, who began the week as one of two competitors with the lowest votes from Castle Red, had to engage in a lyrical face-off with Tyshawn to remain on the show. He had found himself in the bottom two following his week-three performance in which he seemingly froze in the middle of his set and abruptly ended his performance.
“I had sleepless nights coming into this week because I knew that I never did well last time. I didn’t forget the lyrics, I was just overwhelmed by the moment. I was campaigning and rehearsing and had not slept for three days. So, while on stage, seeing the crowd and cameras I became anxious and the tiredness and everything just overcame me in that moment,” he said.
Symatic (real name Rodane Oliphant) returned to his best and wowed both judges and audience with a string of lyrics and melody in his unique style.
“The clash was fun and exciting for me. I knew I had to deliver and I needed to come out and shake the crowd, and that is exactly what I did. Music is my passion and this experience of having to fight for my place in the competition along with the long hours rehearsing and campaigning is a great experience for what it takes to make it in the industry,” said Symatic.
In the female face-off, Bad Gyal Bambi edged Lady Caliba. Contestants can only be in the bottom two face-off on three occasions after which they are automatically eliminated from the competition.
It was also the first night of the Magnum Kings and Queens wild cards, which saw Red Castle’s Shalyric getting the better of Real Steel while Krazy Don beat Kaama in what was seen as the most exciting clash of the evening.
Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall Season 10 continues on Saturday, March 18, with live show six and will see the face-off of Caste Blue contestants Shanara and Syne Tyme as well as Caano and Movack. The season 10 Magnum King and Queen will each receive $1,500,000.
