Three pips off the track record
His place among the best horses to have graced the track at Caymanas Park is pretty much secure. Yet the Wayne DaCosta-trained Seeking The Glory – Alsafra progeny, Seeking My Dream continues to ignite the passion of racing fans with his undoubted class and talent.
Every time he steps on the racetrack, there is a feeling among punters that an extraordinary moment is in the making and last Saturday in the $1.2 million Chairman’s Trophy feature, Seeking My Dream unquestionably cemented his claim as the best horse in training at present.
The five-year-old chestnut horse, Seeking My Dream, allowing weight all round, comfortably defeated rivals by an ever-increasing seven lengths, with regular partner Omar Walker easing down in the last 25 yards of the seven- and-half-furlong (1,500m) event.
Seeking My Dream took off at the top of the lane after Walker held him in second position at the off as stable companion Mr Ambassador (Andre Powell) dictated the early fractions. When Walker moved his hands a bit, Seeking My Dream along withFranfield (Bebeto Harvey) surrounded the leader at the half mile.
From there, everyone knew who the winner was going be, as Seeking My Dream, aided by a roar from the large turnout of racing fans who came out for the first race day staged by the new promoter of local racing – Supreme Ventures Racing and Entertainment Limited – began to edge away.
The final time posted by Seeking My Dream, 1:30.0 seconds was just outside of the track and stakes record of 1:29.2 minutes set by Sky Train back in 1983.
Franfield, who defeated Seeking My Dream in this same race last year, finished second ahead of Hover Craft (Jerome Innis) who came on for third money.
After the win DaCosta said that he might try sprinting with his charge returns on the track.
“Great performance…it was a great performance by Seeking My Dream. He always gives his best each time he races. He worked brilliantly coming into the race and this performance just proved how good he is at this point in time.
“As to the future I have not nailed down a concrete plan as yet. I mean the field was rather below average except for
Franfield and I basically told Omar [Walker] that he knows him (Seeking My Dream) best and therefore he could ride him as he saw fit.
“Maybe, for his next race we will try six furlongs (1,200m) or just put him a 1,820-metre event,” DaCosta indicated in his post-race interview.
