British teen falls to death in Portland
Port Antonio, Portland — A British teen died at the Port Antonio Hospital in Portland, yesterday afternoon, after an accident on a yacht docked at the Errol Flynn Marina in the parish.
The incident reportedly occurred about 2:00 pm.
Head of the Portland Police Division Deputy Superintendent Rex Swearing was tight-lipped about the incident when contacted yesterday.
“At this time, we are still carrying out investigations and a female had an accident on the foreign-registered vessel and was taken to the Port Antonio Hospital, where she died while undergoing treatment.
”We cannot disclose the nature of the accident and the name of the individual and vessel,” he said.
However, the Observer learnt that the Briton, 16-year-old Bethany Smith, was cleaning the mast of the vessel when the ropes became undone and she fell onto the deck. She reportedly suffered multiple injuries and was taken to hospital where she died.
