Montego Bay Boys Club snap winless streak
THREE MILES RIVER, Westmoreland — Montego Bay Boys Club snapped a four-game winless streak, beating Three Miles River 1-0 in their third-round cross-zone game at Three Miles River on Sunday to move into third place in the Jamaica Football Federation Western Confederation Charley’s JB Rum Super League as the race for semi-final places intensified.
Montego Bay Boys Club joined second-placed Reggae Youths on 21 points with four rounds of matches to be played.
Also on Sunday, Petersfield FC won for the first time in 11 games since the opening round, edging Clarks Town 1-0 to move off the foot of the tables, while former champions Wadadah FC and Hopewell United inched further away from the drop zone after both recording 1-0 wins over Beaches Negril and Holland United, respectively.
As a result, defending champions Granville United slipped into the relegation zone and Sandals South Coast will top the points table as their 34 points cannot be surpassed by any of the other teams.
On Sunday, Leroy Christie scored in the 82nd minute for Montego Bay Boys Club as they won for the first time since January 28, effectively placing themselves in a good place to build on for a shot at the semis.
Roniel Whyte’s 16th-minute goal gave the Westmoreland team their first win since they beat Holland United on December 13, almost three months ago.
The three points took them to eight and off the bottom of the tables, but not out of danger of relegation as they are still at least five points away from safety.
Wadadah FC continued their run for safety with a 1-0 win over Beaches Negril at Long Bay Beach Park as an own goal in the seventh minute made the difference.
The former champions are on 17 points and jumped ahead of Beaches Negril into sixth place.
Hopewell United edged Holland United 1-0 at Elleston Wakeland Centre, Mario Samuels scoring the winner in the 49th minute as the Hanover team swapped places with Granville United, who have a game in hand against Three Miles River.
