Thompson Street, Green Pond to vie for Heroy Clake 40-over title
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Thompson Street and Green Pond will meet in Sunday’s final of the St James Cricket Association’s Heroy Clarke 40-over competition at Barnett Oval after topping the table at the end of the regular season last week.
In a rain-affected round of matches, Green Pond got a point from their draw against Rosemount at home to finish with 16 points, while Thompson Street beat Police on a faster run rate in their game at Barnett Oval to end on 15 points.
Rosemount finished on 11 points, one more than Police, while Water Land and Cornwall College failed to win any games.
At Barnett Oval last Sunday, Police, in response to Thompson Street’s 238 for seven, were 91 for four off 21.1 overs, when the game was called off due to rain — 34 runs short of the 125 they needed if they hoped to win on run rate.
After being sent in, Tyrone Johnson made 68 and Carl Tingling 36 for Thompson Street, with Nolayne Mitchell taking three wickets for 59 runs off his 10 overs and Kenroy Haughton two for 57 off 11 overs.
When Police responded, Kevaughn Rowe made 38 and Courtney Allen 12, as Samuel Evans took two for 26 runs off 9.1 overs.
At Green Pond, the home team won the toss and batted first, making 298 for five off their 40 overs with two batsmen making centuries — Carique Williams 116 and Errol Martin 106 not out.
Randy Kerr was the top bowler for Rosemount with four wickets for 94 off 14 overs.
When they replied Rosemount were 142 for one off 18.2 overs when rain ended play with Milton Hamilton unbeaten on 57 and Gary Campbell was not out on 46. Courtney Whyte made 28.
