Ban on Hiace buses terminating in KMTR lifted
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Minister of Transport and Mining, Lester ‘Mike’ Henry, has approved the recommendation of the Transport Authority to remove the ban preventing Hiace buses from terminating in the Kingston Metropolitan Transport Region (KMTR) and restricted them to terminating in Spanish Town.
The removal of the ban came into effect on May 1.This means that Hiace buses can now operate on routes that extend to the KMTR.A release from the Transport Authority said the move is consistent with the thrust by the authority to review the type of vehicles used in the public transportation sector and will seek to alleviate the hardship that some operators had expressed would result from the need to upgrade to coaster buses by March 31, 2018.Henry says the review of the type of vehicle used is ongoing and the public can anticipate greater details upon completion of the review process.
