Barrett Town to get facelift on Labour Day
KINGSTON, Jamaica (JIS) — The Tourism Product Development Company (TPDCo) will be sprucing up the community of Barrett Town in St James for Labour Day 2017.
The scope of work which will be undertaken at the Barrett Town community and health centres, include painting, planting of trees and general upgrade and beautification of the areas.“At the community centre, we will be planting some specific trees, doing general enhancement and clean-up, painting the stands and landscaping the field,” Community Awareness Coordinator at TPDCo, Marline Stephenson Dalley.The health centre will receive a general facelift to both its interior and exterior. The Minister of Tourism, Edmund Bartlett and other officials of the ministry will be participating in the Labour Day activities.Stephenson Dalley explained that the work being done at the Barrett Town community centre is the culmination of an overall rehabilitation and upgrade project that TPDCo has been spearheading at a cost of $20 million. “We have already undertaken extensive work at the community centre including the installation of an irrigation system, new seating and a multi-purpose court; and fencing of the field and court. So on Labour Day, we will be giving the centre the finishing touch and officially handing it over to the community,” Stephenson Dalley explained. Key project partners are Sports Development Foundation (SDF); TEF and other entities and groups.
