Sound system face-off in NY
COME Sunday, July 30, the Roy Wilkins Park in Queens, New York will experience the sound system culture, as promoters Irish and Chin join forces with Irie Jam Radio to present Sound Fest Vibez in the Park.
The event will also mark a milestone for Irish and Chin, who are celebrating 20 years in the entertainment business.
This is the second staging of the event.
Garfield “Chin” Bourne explained the concept.
“Sound Fest Vibez in the Park was built on the premise of providing sound systems with a stage show like platform to provide music lovers with high level entertainment,” he told the Jamaica Observer. “Sound Fest Vibez in the Park aims to celebrate the cornerstone of Jamaican music, showcasing the amazing talent of a diverse line up of selectors and sound systems; and to give music lovers non-stop, high level sound system entertainment via three electrifying segments.”
These three segments are foundation, big chune (tune) and Jugglerz.
Bourne explained the Irie Jam Radio partnership.
“With Irie Jam being New York’s premiere Caribbean-based radio outlet, we decided to join forces with them to reach a broader audience. Moreover, the collaborative effort worked extremely well during our inaugural staging.”
This year’s line up includes Rory Stone Love, Downbeat, Killamanjaro, Renaissance, Body Guard, Black Chiney, Metromedia, Mighty Crown, and Blunt Posse. There will also be performances from Josey Wales, Brigadier Jerry and a stellar cadre of foundation artistes.
