Sumfest’s retro party was impressive
Reggae Sumfest 2017 continued its impressive run of successful events with Wednesday’s staging of Blitz Retro Block Party at Pier One in its week-long festival format now on in the resort city of Montego Bay.
Blitz followed on the heels of a packed house for the always popular All White Party on Tuesday, also at Pier One.
Blitz Retro Block Party took patrons down memory lane with a packed dancefloor moving to hits played by Harry Hype, Boom Boom, Swatch International, Sky Juice and Stone Love whipping the crowd into a frenzy during their respective sets. In keeping with the theme, they played hits from the 1980s and 1990s.
The night also saw live performances by Ward 21 and Mr Lexx, who dropped hits including Full 100, Ring Off Mi Cellie and Cook illiciting huge ‘forwards’ from the crowd.
“Reggae Sumfest 25 started with a bang on Sunday with the beach party, we transformed the new venue into an adult playground and the patrons came out and enjoyed the music despite the rain. Since then the momentum continues to build. We had the Sumfest at Sunset Cruise on Monday and I think next year we will need a bigger yacht. Blitz was great, the ’90s are still hot,” said Josef Bogdanovich, chairman of Summerfest Promotions — producers of Reggae Sumfest.
“We are encouraging persons to come out early for Nights 1 and 2 at Catherine Hall Entertainment Centre to get the best experience of our music, our festival,” Bogdanovich added further.
Last night saw the Heavyweight Sound Clash. The festival continues tonight with performances from Alkaline, Masicka, Aidonia, Mavado, Bounty Killer, Tommy Lee Sparta, Shenseea, Spice and Dexta Daps, among others.
Reggae Sumfest comes to a close on Saturday night with acts including Sean Paul, Richie Stephens, Beenie Man, Sean Kingston, Sizzla, Jah Cure and Mad Cobra.
