Guyanese man arrested in JFK airport drug ring probe
NEW YORK, United States (CMC) — A 32-year-old Guyanese national has been arrested for involvement in a drug ring that is linked to the JFK International Airport.
Court documents revealed that Jermaine Horatio was taken into custody after US federal agents intercepted his text and social media messages and suspected that he was involved in a drug-trafficking ring using contacts at the airport.
Horatio was charged last Thursday and remanded to prison.
The documents state that Horatio was born in Guyana, but lived in the US and worked at the JFK airport.
A former airline employee in Guyana, Horatio’s phone calls, text messages, WhatsApp messages, and social media messages came under scrutiny and, in several instances, he was allegedly found to be discussing drug shipments from Guyana through the JFK airport with the confidential source.
Court documents reveal that the ‘Feds’ had one of their confidential sources at the airport network with Horatio, who then allegedly attempted to use the said source as one of the facilitators of the shipment of narcotics.
The confidential source reportedly told law enforcement officers, “Horatio is currently involved in a scheme to import narcotics into the United States through JFK airport.”
