Former NDTC dancer Hunt dies in Washington DC
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Former member of the National Dance Theatre Company (NDTC) Fitzroy Hunt died on Tuesday July 18 in Washington DC, USA, where he had been residing for several years.
Hunt joined the company as a supporting dancer in 1971, becoming a full member in the early 1980s. As a part-time student at the Jamaica School of Dance, he had concentrated on modern dance technique, and broadened his natural skills in Caribbean dances and Jamaican traditional and contemporary popular forms.
Hunt featured in Rex Nettleford’s Street People, Tribute to Cliff, and Kumina, among others.
He will also be remembered as the basket carrier in the prologue of The Crossing, and originated the role of the horse in Gerrehbenta in 1983.
