Kasey Williams, Patricia Lawrence first recipients of CAST scholarship
Port Antonio, PORTLAND — Kasey Williams and Patricia Lawrence are the first recipients of the Chief Apostle Stanley Taylor (CAST) Memorial Fund Scholarship, presented to them at the Linnette Williams Multi-Purpose Hall here two Saturdays ago.
The scholarships, valued at US$50,000 each, cover the rest of their studies at university.
Williams is a student at Northern Caribbean University where he will begin the second year of a Bachelor’s in mass communication programme this August, while Lawrence is about to begin year two or her business administration degree at the University of Technology, Jamaica.
The fund is named after the late Stanley Taylor, who was born in Jamaica and migrated to the United States of America where he passed in February 2015. The late apostle is remembered as a man who always helped people, with one of his famous sayings being: “If I can help somebody as I pass along, then my living will not be in vain”.
Taylor was posthumously honoured with the naming of a street — Chief Apostle Stanley Taylor Way — by the City of Newark in November 2015.
President of the fund, Minister Richard Lindo pointed out that this will be an annual award, with the intention of extending the programme to include younger students across the island as a means of helping alleviate the scourge of crime and violence.
