Stephen Marley on Capleton’s charity show
Following a show-stopping performance at Reggae Sumfest, Stephen Marley will appear at Capleton’s A St Mary Mi Come From show on August 5 at Gray’s Inn Sports Complex in St Mary.
Marley, an eight-time Grammy winner, gave a standout set on closing night of Reggae Sumfest, and was joined by Capleton. The two artistes have been collaborating for over 15 years, starting with It Was Written, a song from Damian “Junior Gong” Marley’s Halfway tree album in 2001.
Their previous hit song, Rock Stone, was released in 2014.
“The performance will be even more electrifying at A St Mary Mi Come From,” Capleton declared.
It will be the 13th staging of the show, which takes place in Capleton’s home parish. Over the years, proceeds have gone to financially challenged institutions in St Mary, St Ann, and Kingston.
The show returned in 2016 after a three-year break.
“We have a host of top acts in reggae, dancehall, and even ska. Although we have performers from all generations, this year we are definitely celebrating the legends. You know, we have to give respect to those on whose shoulders we stand,” said Capleton.
Pluto Shervington, Ernie Smith, Cocoa Tea, Errol Dunkley, Leroy Gibbons, Eric Donaldson, Everton Blender, George Nooks, Sanchez and Ninjaman are some of the veterans on A St Mary Mi Come From. They will be joined by LUST, Anthony B, Louie Culture, Bushman, Aidonia, Wickerman, Michael Fabulous, Droop Lion, Chezidek, Macka Diamond, Romaine Virgo, Raine Seville, Ikaya, Jah Mason and Yvad.
Backing bands are Warrior Love, Ruff Kut, and Prophecy.
