Good start for Cornwall in Western Conference basketball
MARTHA BRAE, Trelawny — Cornwall College won back-to-back games in both age groups — the Under-16 and Under-19 — to start the 2017/18 ISSA Western Conference boys’ basketball competition earlier this week.
After sweeping York Castle in both sections on Monday, winning 53-21 and 36-27 respectively, Cornwall College beat William Knibb Memorial 51-36 in the Under-16, and 30-24 in the Under-19 section in Martha Brae, a day later.
Two players returned double-doubles to lead Cornwall College to their win in the Under-16 section. Omar Campbell led all players with 18 points and 14 rebounds, and Romario Senior scored 16 points and had 11 rebounds.
Kevaughn Hill scored 17 points for William Knibb Memorial, who trailed all the way 11-17, 16-27 and 25-39 at the end of each quarter.
In the low-scoring Under -19 game, Cornwall College came from behind to outscore William Knibb 22-11 in the final quarter, after trailing 13-8 after three quarters.
Enrieka Blagrove had a triple-double-10 points, 11 rebounds and 10 steals for Cornwall College, Ryan Whyte scored eight points and had 15 rebounds, while Aaron Forbes led William Knibb with seven points.
