Montague rebuts calls for dismissal of FLA chief
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Security Minister Robert Montague says he has “continued confidence” in the head of the Firearms Licensing Authority (FLA), Shane Dalling following calls for his resignation.
President of the Jamaica Civil Service Association O’Neil Grant, in calling for Dalling’s resignation, told the security minister through a letter that the union had no confidence in Dalling and his handling of industrial relations cases at the FLA.
But Montague, in a October 24 letter that was released to the media, told Grant that he has failed to provide credible reasons for Dalling’s dismissal, adding that as the CEO he has abided by all contracts.
Montague also reminded Grant that as security minister he could not direct the FLA Board to employ or dismiss Dalling.
“Regarding your criminal complaint to the Director of Public Prosecutions, I am directing you to give a statement and provide evidence to the police lest you be accused of creating public mischief”, Montague pointedly told Grant.
The security minister advised Grant to report any knowledge corrupt practises at the FLA to the relevant authorities.
