Divide and conquer
Sir Ronald Sanders opens up the conversation on the changing face of regional co-operation. He suggests that the countries of the region have failed to first huddle and arrive at a united position before taking a seat at the table with the ‘big boys’. Sanders points to the fact that the US has benefited from this insularity and has imposed its heavy-handed rules for reporting under the cloak of combating money laundering, terrorist financing, and tax evasion. Sir Ronald adds that the countries of the region consequently walk away from international dialogues having agreed to terms that violate domestic legislation and hurt their respective private sectors.
