Lesson in tactful speech
Dear Editor,
Being tactful is priceless and always in order in our daily interactions. It is not very wise to always speak one’s mind, whether during public or private discourses.
Senator Kamina Johnson Smith has apologised for a perceived inappropriate comment she made to Senator Floyd Morris during a recent debate in the Senate. She should be commended for this.
It is said that diplomacy is the fine art of telling someone to go to hell in such a manner that they look forward to the trip. One does not, however, have to be a diplomat or an expert in human relations to simply understand that there are certain comments and utterances which are best avoided as they will definitely endanger and not engender mutual respectful relations.
