Two trophy races are carded on the 10-race programme at Caymanas Park today, but it is the native-bred three-year-olds (NW2)/Imported three-year-olds and upward maidens Restricted Allowance caper, that will do the job of highlighting.

The five-furlong (1,000m)-round event has attracted a field of 11 runners going for a purse of $900,000. The race is scheduled to go to post at approximately 4:30 pm with the first post at 12:05 pm.

It is a race with some amount of speed present, however, someone has to come out of the pack as a surprise to prevent Princess Katriel, Milagro and Silver Rocket from having a telling duel among themselves to take the event. Beltane, who has failed three times at the distance, has another shot to get it right.

Princess Katriel and Milagro seem to have a score to settle with Silver Rocket in tow, and this is as good a time as any to do so in an event that on the surface looks to be evenly matched, with the Emperor Hall chestnut filly Empress Hall breathing down the backs of the front-runners for her share of the spoils. Anthony Thomas will ride Empress Hall for his apprentice master Welsh Souter.

Milagro was beaten by Peeping Tom at the distance just over three weeks ago by two and a half lengths. That was not a bad performance, but going up in the weights could let Princess Katriel through to move on or DM Cutie, with Paul Francis up, to spoil the party with the light impost, having scored her maiden win at the distance.

The long-standing and prestigious Abbe Grannum Memorial Cup, a native-bred two-year-old maiden special weight contest, is set to give the programme a flying start going seven furlongs (1,400m) for a purse of $900,000 at 12:05 pm.

A field of six runners is carded with the Michael Marlowe-trainer Marquesas, the Fitzroy Glispie-prepared El Profesor, and Wilson, trained by Richard Azan, looking to be among those who could shed the maiden tag forthwith.

The Cecil Charlton Trophy is the other trophy race on the card. A high-claiming jaunt for $550,000 down to $500,000, for three-year-olds and upward and four-year-olds (NW4), the event has attracted a stormy field of 10 going six and a half furlongs (1,300m) for a purse of $750,000.

Several runners present have failed to live up to their early promise and are here given another chance amongst comparable opposition to improve their winning margin.

Storming, a five-year-old, is the most progressive runner among this claiming group. She thrives on racing and having put away the likes of Royal Assault and Littlebighorn on October 25 going five and a half furlongs (1,100m) on a higher tag, should not be denied a chance to make it two from two if she remains sound.

Kanaloa is another who should perform well among these. A four-year-old chestnut colt with some ability, he needs to find his class to be fully effective and could use this opportunity to improve his winning margin.

Flying Machine is another bay filly who looks to have a decent chance with Superstakes winning jockey Anthony Thomas replacing Prince Holder, who won aboard the filly on last.

Crafty Star is another runner who should do well in this group of horses on showing the best winning form for the season, second only to the filly Storming.
