ROSE HALL, St James — Tulane University made a winning start to the first-ever Jamaica Classic NCAA men’s basketball event at the Montego Bay Convention Centre with an easy 80-53 win over Colorado State, as they extended their record to 3-0 on the season.

Tulane ‘Green Waves’ ,guided by former NBA coach Mike Dunleavy, led from the start when they scored the first nine points in the game and never looked back, as guards Cameron Reynolds with 25 points and Melvin Frazier with 23 points led the scoring.

Two more games were played last night, Fordham University against Florida State University and Long Island University-Brooklyn facing Miami of Ohio with one game, LIU-Brooklyn against the University of Hartford scheduled for today, starting at 5:30 pm.

Yesterday Colorado State ‘Rams’, who play in the Mountain West Conference, lost their first game of the season to be 2-1, managed just 14 points in the first half despite Che Bob coming off the bench to score 15 points from six for 11 shooting.

Tulane, who lead the American Athletic Conference, dominated the game leading 37-14 at the half-time break and were never pressured, especially after Colorado State’s dangerous Nico Carvacho picked up his fourth foul early in the second half and sat out most of the rest of the game.

Reynolds and Frazier combined for seven three-pointers, Reynolds making four of his eight attempts, and Frazier made three of his four, and also delighted the small crowd with several massive dunks.

Ray Ona Embo, who is from France, also scored in double digits for Tulane with 10 points, while Samir Sehic scored eight points and had nine rebounds.

Carvacho and Deion James each had eight points for Colorado State, while JD Paige scored seven points.
