Two trophy races and the Harry Parsard call will take centre stage on the 10-race card at Caymanas Park today. The two trophy races are the Royal Lancaster Trophy and the United Racehorse Trainers Association of Jamaica (URTAJ) Trophy events.

While the two trophy races will highlight the programme, it is the Harry Parsard event which brings the curtains down in style, with a number of top three-year-olds and upward contesting an Overnight Allowance event going eight and a half furlongs (1,700m) for a purse of $1 million.

A field of 12 is declared to compete with the likely winner coming from the group of Jamai Raja, Ian Links, Marvellous Marva, Blue Dixie, Soy El Senor, Supertronics and Shining Light.

However, the race should come down to a straight fight among Jamai Raja, Ian Links and Shining Light, with little to separate the trio. The edge is given to the Wayne DaCosta-trained Ian Links with Dane Nelson in the saddle.

The URTAJ Trophy, a Restricted Stakes event for imported three-year-olds and upward (NW3) and native bred three-year-olds, has attracted a small but compact and gifted field of six runners — three colts and three fillies — going nine furlongs and 25 yards (1,820m) for a purse of $930,000.

Western Warrior, the very consistent three-year-old bay colt by Western Classic — Littlerichgirl, looks to have a better than an average chance of winning this trophy race. The bold front-runner is given every chance of making amends for the neck loss he suffered by his imported stable companion, Kalamata, 28 days ago over this journey. Post time is at 2:05 pm with the first post at 11:50 am.

While Western Warrior may have the local opposition covered, the American-bred Follow Back A Me is among his old foes whom he had behind in his last races going a mile (1,600m). Follow Back A Me is quite a consistent performer over today’s distance, with his only win from his seven starts coming over the extended sprint journey on January 10.

Bred by Richard Lake, owned by Lakeland Farms Limited and trained by Anthony Nunes, Follow Back A Me with Shane Ellis doing riding duties could see the chestnut filly bang in contention for this one.

Dontae, a stablemate of Follow Back A Me, was a close-up third behind Kalamata and Western Warrior in that October 21 contest over the distance, and with both he and Western Warrior coming in once again at the same weight it could be a bang-up finish for the major share of spoils, with recent winner Vice Royalty joining the rush for the wire.

Wesley Henry, who was aboard Western Warrior on last, will again settle in the tack as he tries to get the Fitznahum Williams-trained front-running colt far enough ahead to escape the final rush, while Dick Cardenas will stay aboard Dontae.

Meanwhile, eight juveniles will thunder down the track in the Royal Lancaster Trophy, a maiden special weight call for two-year-old colts and geldings only.

They will go five furlongs (1000m) on the round course for a purse of $900,000. Woodhouse, the most experienced juvenile present, is certain to give a very good account of himself, with the in form Cardenas choosing to ride.

KJ Express, returning from a 28-day respite shows enough in his exercise gallops to vie for one of the minor placings, while Ricky Rickardo with claiming apprentice Natalie Burger up and Timetosaygoodbye could be there about at the finish.
