With billed live performances from a potpourri of genre acts. R&B crooner Raphael Saadiq, Hollywood royalty Willow Smith, Jamaica’s own reggae star Protoje and jazz man Gary Clark complemented Afropunk’s expected spades of patrons marching to their own gender-neutral fashion beats through the lens of shutterbug Kenyon Hemans.

There’s definitely something about Savannah Baker’s Portland-lensed portraits. Arresting and infinitely compelling in their subject matter, Baker has a true artist’s eye and through her lens has developed an uncanny knack of finding raw beauty in the denizens of the eastern parish which she feels privileged to call her third home (she has residences in her native England and in Los Angeles). T hrough the click of her camera, Baker’s maturing aesthetic, which varies between naturalistic and a stylised ‘rootsy glam’, utilised the town of Port Antonio, the seaside haunts, district folk, raggamuffin rude boys, and coloured-tressed hotties, finding unfiltered truth in the images she captured and SO shared.

SUZANNE & MICHELLE ROUSSEAU PRESENT…November 5, 2017

Sisters Michelle and Suzanne Rousseau returned to the annual Jamaica Food & Drink Festival roster to co-host Brunch at the Gallery, the $20,000- finale of the Caribbean’s #1 urban food festival. Culturally inspired, the Rousseaus outdid themselves in coding and retracing the origins of the non-gourmet Jamaican palate and transported brunchers through a culinary prologue of The Rock’s world-famous street- and homestyle fare.

The result: a leisurely curated meal of this heritage cuisine — dynamic in its deconstructed earthiness and genteel in its reconstruction — giving a nod to the past yet representing the latest juncture in a shared career that, having spanned 20 years.
