Herbert Morrison, CC lead in ISSA Western Conference basketball
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Defending champions Herbert Morrison Technical High School in the Under-19 section and Cornwall College in the Under-16 section are the leaders in their respective age groups, as the ISSA Western Conference basketball competitions break until after the Christmas holidays.
Both Herbert Morrison teams are unbeaten, with the senior team winning all 12 games played so far and leading with 24 points, four points more than second-placed Muschett High who have played 11 games, with York Castle in third place on 18 points from 13 games followed by Cornwall College on 17 points from 12 games.
Cornwall College, who beat Holland High 104-21 on Friday, lead the Under-16 section with 25 points from 13 games, three more than Herbert Morrison, winners of their 11 games played, with York Castle in third place on 20 points from 13 games, and Rhodes Hall in fourth place on 16 points from 10 games.
On Friday, Cornwall College swamped Holland High by 83 points led by Kenrick Brown’s 21 points and 16 steals, 18 points from Rushane Francis, 17 from Omar Campbell, and 12 from Fitzroy Cameron.
Cornwall College led 25-3 after the first quarter, 45-5 at the half-time break, and 68-14 at the end of the third quarter.
William Knibb beat Rhodes Hall 61-47 in their Under-16 game on Friday, with a double-double from Rhondane Ashman to nullify a game-high 20 points from Javani Davis.
Ashman scored 10 points and had 13 rebounds for William Knibb, as Kavaughn Hill scored 15 points and Cliffoy Samuels scored 14 points.
