As a country, we have come to expect silence from Prime Minister Andrew Holness on serious matters plaguing our island that directly affect our citizens.

After the Office of the Contractor General published a report on the de-bushing programme carried out by the Government before the local government election, the prime minister said he would give a statement on the report. As of December 11, 2017 Jamaica is still waiting on this statement.

Now the Government has awarded a contract for over $400 million of taxpayers’ for the purchase of used cars for the police, and has paid out half of that sum. Just consider that after a year of having paid over $200 million to the contractor half of the vehicles have not been delivered. No word from the prime minister on this mess.

Let’s not even discuss the fact that Jamaica may well be the only country in the world that would even consider giving the crime fighters of our nation used vehicles. At this point we must ask ourselves: If Jamaica isn’t gaining from this contract, then who is?

Jamaica has come to expect nothing of substance from the current minister of security, hence we look and wait on the Prime Minister for leadership and clarity. Are we to expect the same response as we got from the de-bushing programme from the prime minister .or is Andrew Holness going to continue pretending he is unaware of anything that happens in his Administration and start leading from the front?
