Police again reject Gov’t wage offer
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The police have again rejected the Government’s wage offer as talks continue between public sector workers and the Finance Ministry.
It is reported that that the initial offer of six per cent was again presented to representatives of the Police Federation, with only a change in the variation — a four per cent increase in the first year and two per cent in the second year.
The original offer was three per cent which amounted to less than $1,000 in each year of the two-year contract, broken down, amounting to less than $7 daily.
The offer also resulted in a reported sick-out by police personnel throughout the island and the negotiating team from the Jamaica Teachers’ Association walking out of their meeting.
Meanwhile, in a statement Monday afternoon, the People’s National Party called for the Government to immediately settle the wage issues with the police and other public sector workers as more industrial action looms.
