Dear Editor,

I submit a tweet that was made recently by Robert Nesta Morgan, director of communications in the Office of the Prime Minister.

My question, as it relates to this tweet by Morgan, is to ask if his position as director of communications is not one that should be non-partisan, since he is being paid by taxpayers of Jamaica, many of whom are not affiliated with or aligned to the ruling Jamaica Labour Party?

For Morgan to be trailing Crawford in such a manner that he takes interest in whether he has any group or not is troubling, as such a tweet could be construed as intimidation coming from Morgan.

I was not aware that Morgan held shares in social media so much to the point that he should become concerned over who might be forming groups and for what purpose.

Free speech and other freedoms afforded to Jamaicans under the constitution has noticeably seemed to be under attack since this Government came into power; and that, in and of itself, is very troubling.

With the number of Jamaicans murdered since January 2017 approaching 2,000, civil servants seeking a pay increase, national identification system fears, and so many things not going right, one would think that there would be more important issues for the prime minister’s director of communications to be concerned with than who is forming groups and where.

Honestly, if Morgan cannot operate in an unbiased way in his portfolio as director of communications, then he needs to allow someone who can better function in such a capacity to do so, as for him to continue in this vein is downright troublesome.
