THE acting court assistant who is at the centre of a divorce racket is to return to court next year.

Camille Whyte, 40, who was employed to the Civil Registry at the time of her arrest, had her bail extended when she appeared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court yesterday.

A January 17, 2018 mention date was set after the court was told by the prosecutor that the case file was incomplete.

The file is expected to be completed by mid-January.

In September, Justice Minister Delroy Chuck had to withdraw comments he made broad-brushing court staff after news surfaced that bogus divorce documents were being issued to the public from the court.

A week later Whyte was charged.

Whyte, who is being represented by attorney Peter Champagnie, pleaded not guilty to charges of obtaining money by false pretence in October.

It is alleged that Whyte collected $20,000 in 2015 from a policewoman with the promise that she could prepare and file her divorce without the aid of an attorney.

When the promise was not fulfilled, the matter was reported to the Fraud Squad.

Prior to extending her bail, Parish Judge Vaughn Davis bounded over the investigating officer in the matter to return to court.
