Money Magnet favoured for Open Allowance call

Money Magnet favoured for Open Allowance call

Although the Joseph Armond Memorial Trophy event is the lone trophy race on the day’s card, it is the third race, an Open Allowance event for three-year-olds and upward going six furlongs (1,200 metres) that will attract most attention on the 10-race card at Caymanas Park today.

A small but potent field of seven runners will converge at 1:10 pm to battle for the major share of the $1.15 million purse. First post is at noon.

It is a race than can be won by any of the entrants but the runs by Money Magnet and Another Bullet in the recently contested Diamond Mile are good foundation building performances to prime both runners for capital efforts at today’s shorter distance.

Money Magnet, with the in-form Anthony Thomas returning to the saddle, must be considered highly for a capital effort as the three-year-old chestnut filly ran much better than her final placing showed in the Diamond Mile event where she finished in sixth position by eight-and-a-half lengths.

Trained by Richard Azan for owners NYA, Money Magnet has been a consistent performer throughout the season and having been again well prepared for a capital effort, could only be denied by a Herculean effort from either Siempre Bueno, Orpheus or Another Bullet.

Siempre Bueno though concentrated more over the five straight course (1,000m) for the season but the flying five-year-old chestnut horse is no chicken over the round course even with top weight of 57.0kg (126 lb).

The idea of trainer Anthony Nunes keeping stable rider Dick Cardenas in the tack aboard Siempre Bueno and Shane Ellis aboard Orpheus, both Money Magnet and Another Bullet, with Dane Nelson up, should be pressed to dig deep for a redeeming effort.

But with so much speed present, were the speedsters to go too fast too early then the Wayne DaCosta runners Hover Craft and Royal Vibes could poach an unlikely win by come calling late to create much confusion.

As one should be mindful that although these runners are concentrated over longer distances, they are no snail’s pacers when given good reasons to sprint and come calling.

Meanwhile, in spite of the overall competitiveness of the Joseph Armond feature, the race looks tailor-made for the promising American-bred Atomic Prince to shed his maiden tag.

This is after a feeling-out period of four runs on local soil with the last two showing that the Golden Stables-owned highly-thought-of son of Congrats, trained by Fitznahum Williams, is approaching racing fitness.

Williams has gone for the non-claiming apprentice Dane Dawkins in place of the two-time champion Shane Ellis, who rode on last, but that does not in any way reduce his chances although entering the race with his customary weight of 56.0kg (123 lb) and attempting the distance of nine furlongs and 25 yards (1,820m) for the very first time.

Good runs are expected from Regal Prospector, Bruce Wayne, El Maestro and Cruise Lava Cruise.
