Central Titans have a slight edge over home team Eastern Tigers going into today’s final day of the rescheduled fourth-round Jamaica Cricket Association two-day Super League match at Melbourne Oval.

At close of play yesterday, the Tigers, riding on opener Aaron Johnson’s punishing 97 not out, were 128-6 in reply to the Titans’ first-innings score of 230.

Earlier, the Titans won the toss and decided to take first strike in sunny conditions on a pitch that looked good for batting.

Openers Kenar Lewis and left-hander Steven Taylor made 42 and 33, respectively, and shared in a first-wicket stand of 58 runs.

There was a wobble in the middle as wickets fell in a bundle, but 46 from former Jamaica Captain Tamar Lambert helped to lift the visitors to 230.

West Indies ‘A’ fast bowler Oshane Thomas took 4-69 for the Tigers, while spinners Yannick Elliott and and Jevaughn Buchanan claimed two wickets each.

In the hosts’ reply, Johnson, who hit the ball with superb timing and immense power, was a lone beacon. He thrashed seven sixes and five fours to climb into the 90s before umpires called bad light. The next best individual score in the innings has been Lionel Morant’s 10. Kirk Harris, not out on zero, is to resume with Johnson this morning.

The Titans’ leg-spinner Marcel Parchment and pacer Mikhail Powell grabbed 2-19 and 2-28, respectively.

In another game at Treasure Beach Sports Park, hosts Southern Seals were 35-2 in response to Northern Panthers’ meagre 103 on a day in which play was shortened due to wet conditions in the morning.
